NXT #299 Recap – Last Stop Before Respect

Here’s a recap of the 9/30/15 edition of WWE NXT.
Written by: Angela Delgado

Angie here with another NXT Recap. We are one week away from NXT: Respect, so let’s see what these NXT superstars have in store for us tonight….

Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs Finn Balor and Samoa Joe open the show to compete in the second round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. This match was fast paced and entertaining as hell. Wish the match went longer. Big Cass seems to be getting better in the ring and Enzo is just as good, just not good enough to beat Balor and Joe. Nice finish with Joe hitting the Muscle Buster on Enzo and Finn hitting the Coup de Grace for the victory.

Side notes: 1. Enzo and Cass would be great in the main roster and I hope it happens as the new year approaches. 2. Finn Balor’s leather jacket and this Balor Club vibe is bad ass and I think he should stick to it and kick the demon gimmick to the curb.

Backstage Segment # 1
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa talk about how disappointed they are that they got eliminated from the Tag Classic. They want to move on. Tyler Breeze approaches them and challenges Ciampa to a match.

Apollo Crews vs Johnny Gargano
The announcers were pointing out that these two have history and have competed with each other since their indy days. A big test for both men. Great match. Johnny Gargano pulled off a spear through the ropes that was impressive. But Crews dominated the last minutes of the match. Military press/Moonsault. Crews gets the victory.

Side note: My opinion on Apollo Crews has not changed. I still think he should tone down the smiles a bit. We all know he’s happy to be there, who isn’t? Last week bothered me when he and Tyler Breeze were backstage talking about their match at Takeover. That “hey man, gee golly” stuff has to go away soon. Maybe Tyler Breeze can get it out of him next week.

Backstage Segment # 2
William Regal is in his office with Dana Brooke and Emma. He tells them since they interrupted the Asuka signing, Dana Brooke will have a match with her. Dana Brooke, in all her awkward and cringeworthy response, wasn’t phased by the challenge. Dana goes on to call Asuka a “HIGH HEENA” not Hyena. God Dana Brooke is awful. Regal unammused by all of this shows Dana a clip of Asuka training and her face changes fast. So, yeah, get ready for the murder scene that’s gonna happen at NXT:Respect when they go head to head. Emma delivers a great line to Dana and says “Good luck with that.”

Dana Brooke and Emma vs Billie Kay and Peyton Royce
Oh great. We get to sit through more Dana Brooke. I didn’t pay much attention to this match because it was pretty much a squash. I love Emma’s ring work and it sucks that she’s even in this situation. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce are still figuring things out so the match was a bit sloppy. Dana Brooke and Emma pick up the win.

Tommaso Ciampa vs Tyler Breeze
Ciampa took early advantage. It seemed as though Ciampa would go on to win this match and pull the upset. As he was going for a dive off the top rope, Breeze hits Ciampa with a drop kick and goes for a cover. Breeze stomps Ciampa in the corner then lifts Ciampa, he does his own modified version of the Killswitch and gets the win. This was an awesome match. I hope we see more of them in the future.

The show ends with a video package hyping up the Iron Man match between Bayley and Sasha Banks. WWE once again hits a home run with these video packages. Be on the look out for another piece I’m writing on Bayley and Sasha Banks because they deserve their own.

Thanks for reading and catch you guys next time
