NXT Recap – 3/9/16

Hello Wrestling Chronicle readers! Angie here with your weekly NXT recap and results. The Road to NXT Takeover: Dallas is here. It was a Big show so let’s get this rolling!

William Regal opens the show to announce a match between Baron Corbin and NXT newcomer, Austin Aries for NXT Takeover: Dallas. He’s also kicking off the first (and only) match of tonight’s episode, Samoa Joe vs Sami Zayn to determine the number one contender for Finn Balor’s NXT Championship.

Worth noting, it was great seeing Hideo Itami in the crowd. He kind of gets lost in the shuffle with all of the up and coming talent in NXT. Can’t wait till he’s back and healthy enough to compete. Also in the crowd, Sasha Banks, latest Hall of Fame inductee, Michael “PS” Hayes, Hall of Famer, Larry Zbyszko, and the voice of Smackdown, Mauro Ranallo.

Samoa Joe vs Sami Zayn: 2 Out Of 3 Falls

Joe scores the first fall via the Muscle Buster.

Sami Zayn takes the second fall making Joe tap out to the Koji Clutch.

Zayn goes right for Joe after the submission and hits the Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. Both men are dead tired at this point. They make their way outside the ring and Zayn pulls off his best move, the Tornado DDT through the ropes. Sami gets Joe back in the ring and hits an Exploder Suplex on the turnbuckle. As he was going for the Helluva Kick, Joe got out the way and applied the Coquina Clutch to get the third and final fall. Joe is going to Takeover: Dallas for his Championship rematch against Finn Balor.

I love how this was the only match on tonight’s episode. It felt real. Now that the main event for Takeover is set, what’s next for Sami Zayn? By now, we should all know who is opponent is if you read spoilers. And that will most likely be his final NXT match as he’s pretty much full time on the main roster.

Thoughts on Samoa Joe winning? Think he’ll pull of a win at Takeover: Dallas?

Thanks for reading, guys and see you for the Smackdown recap!
