Lucha Underground Season 2 Episode 12 Recap: Three’s a Crowd

It’s been a while since we’ve posted what’s been going on over in Lucha Underground so why not play catch up? Last we saw, Matanza Cueto destroyed Fenix but former champion Mil Muertes doesn’t look too intimidated. New Trios Tournament has Dragon Azteca Jr. teaming up with his mentor Rey Misterio Jr. and Prince Puma…what else has been happening in the Temple?

Written by: Erik Vasquez
The show opens with Johnny Mundo, Taya, and…Brian Cage are in Dario Cueto’s office. Cueto wants all three to join together and win the Trios Tournament but Mundo and Cage hate each other so how is this going to work?
Argenis vs. Killshot
Before the bell rings skills hit seems transfixed by his dog tags almost has though they have a power over him. Nothing too crazy in this bout. Tons of heavy strikes with Killshot handling most of the offense. He defeats Argenis with a move similar to Kenny Omega’s One Winged Angel. Good stuff.
So apparently Black Lotus is actually a mole working posing to do work for Dario Cueto. She is actually allies with Dragon Azteca Jr. Both are looking to get revenge for Matanza killing their master.
Dario Cueto is in his office with Mexican sensation Daga who will be making his Lucha Underground debut taking on Texano for one of the Aztec Medallions.
Daga vs. Texano
Fun fact from Vampiro, these two used to be tag partners in Mexico. You can tell they know each other very well as they go back and forth countering moves and near falls. Daga is really impressive. He looks like the total package. Agile, quick, hits hard, and in good physical shape. Texano is another guy I like to watch. He reminds me a lot of Sheamus. A guy who likes to go in the ring, hit hard, and get hit hard back. I really loved the closing sequence of the match. Daga has Texano in an ankle lock. Texano rolls out and kicks Daga into the ropes. Daga rebounds off and Texano monkey flips him, giving Texano the opening to hit a sit out powerbomb for the win. Texano wins one of the seven gold Aztec Medallions. He can cash in his Medallion for a shot at the Gift of the Gods Championship.
Catrina informs Mil Muertes that the Disciples of Death will compete in the Trios Tournament and are looking for forgiveness from Mil Muertes. Catrina vows that they will not fail and he won’t either as he will become the Lucha Underground Champion once again. Mil Muertes grows and I am legit scared for my life.

Trios Tournament First Round Match: Rey Misterio Jr., Dragon Azteca Jr., and Prince Puma vs. Johnny Mundo, Taya, and Cage
This match pretty much delivered what you would expect it to. Dragon and Puma provided the impressive aerial maneuvers, Cage blasted guys with his power, and Taya was no slouch either. It was good to see Misterio wow the crowd with his usual arsenal of moves plus some different things to keep up with his partners. The downfall for Team Mundo and Cage was when both men could not set aside their differences for the sake of winning. Cage got tired of Mundo giving him orders and took off his head with a discuss lariat. Misterio hits the 619 into a satellite DDT from Dragon Azteca Jr. which then leads to a 630 senton from Prince Puma to secure the victory and advance to the second round of the Trios Tournament.
Before the show ends Dario meets with his brother Matanza who he keeps locked in a cell. I may be the only one but I kind of feel bad for Matanza. He’s been manipulated to do his brother’s dirty work and all he gets for it is locked in a cage. Either way the next episode will see Matanza faced Mil Muertes.
What did you think of this episode? Don’t worry I’ll be playing catch up all week long so stay tuned!
