Brock Lesnar

Raw Recap – 11/7/16; Hello From Scotland!

Tonight RAW comes from Glasgow, Scotland!

Tonight’s pre-recorded Raw from Glasgow, Scotland begins with Stephanie McMahon calling all participants on the RAW Survivor Series team. Once Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns, and Braun Strowman are in the ring she announces the final member of the team…Seth Rollins! She gives the team one big incentive, fight like your jobs depend on it, because they do! For a moment it looked as though all five men were looking to be a cohesive unit but things started to turn sour when Owens and Jericho made themselves co-captains of the team. The Best Friends began making demands for each member which ended in an all out brawl. Braun Strowman ends up destroying Jericho and Rollins. Stephanie comes back to announce that all five competitors on the Raw Survivor Series team will take on each other in a Fatal Five Way match tonight. Hopefully that’ll get all the bad blood out.

Sin Cara and Rich Swann vs. The Brian Kendrick and Noam Dar

What a massive loud reception for Scotland’s own Noam Dar. A technical master in the ring, Dar is very reminiscent of Cruiserweight pioneer Dean Malenko. Fairly quick match with the story being Swann pinning Kendrick once again. Could he be next in line for a Cruiserweight Championship opportunity? Post match Kendrick tried to punk Dar and blame him for the loss. Dar ends up getting the better of Kendrick and the hometown crowd goes wild.

Quick hype vignette for Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg at Survivor Series.

We almost had anarchy with the Raw Tag Team Survivor Series team but thankfully New Day were able to keep the team together with a rousing Braveheart-esque speech. Gallows and Anderson stay on the team but makes no bones about stabbing the team in the back.

The New Day vs. Gallows and Anderson

Solid tag match but nothing noteworthy. Gallows and Anderson get the win with Magic Killer. Hopefully there are plans to make a New Day/Gallows and Anderson build more interesting.

Apparently R-Truth traded The Golden Truth’s Survivor Series spot to The Shining Stars for a timeshare in Puerto Rico. Uh oh.

Woooo! Another vignette for Goldberg vs. Lesnar. Exciting. Next week Goldberg and Brock Lesnar will be in the ring at the same time. Now that’s the good stuff.

Kevin Owens had the bright idea to try and get Braun Strowman on his and Chris Jericho’s side despite Jericho almost sabotaging Owens. Despite Owens kissing up to Strowman, Braun is on Team Braun.

The Golden Truth vs. The Shining Stars

The crowd was not into this match at all. It’s a shame because I’ve really enjoyed the quality of work from The Shining Stars and they have a great gimmick. Goldust briefly got the crowd back into the match. Epico tried to distract Goldust with another timeshare offer but Goldust declined with a right hand. R-Truth dumps Epico out of the ring. From behind Primo rolls Goldust for a pin using the ropes for extra leverage. Shining Stars get the three count and keep their spot on the Survivor Series Tag Division Team.

Looks like Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon have been invited to Raw. Will they show up?

Michael Cole in the ring explaining the rules of a traditional Survivor Series elimination match and segues into introducing Charlotte, the captain of the Raw Women’s Division Survivor Series team. Nia Jax is introduced next who makes sure to let everyone know she doesn’t work for Charlotte. Alicia Fox is announced next to join the team for her veteran experience to the team. Can she remain civil with her foe Nia Jax? The fourth member of the team is Bayley. The final unannounced member of the team (of Scotland allows Charlotte to make the announcement) is Dana Brooke. Wait, no it’s not it’s Sasha Banks! The Boss is back.

Alicia Fox, Sasha Banks, and Bayley vs. Nia Jax, Dana Brooke, and Charlotte

This match really is what turned it on for the crowd and gave the show a good jolt overall. Nia Jax was able to show off her power which will obviously be the foundation of her character. The crowd came unglued once Bayley got the tag. Haven’t heard a hot tag get the crowd that loud in a while. This was wonderful storytelling because Bayley absolutely dominated Charlotte in the ring so Bayley is most definitely not the weak link. Not to mention she pinned THE CHAMP to win the match. Good match, great storytelling.

Rusev vs. Sami Zayn – Winner will answer Dolph Ziggler’s Open Challenge at Survivor Series

Very slow paced match with Rusev controlling most of the offense. Sami saw his opening when Rusev uncharacteristically went up to the top rope. Zayn hits a Helluva Kick right on the button and gets the win. Dolph Ziggler vs. Sami Zayn at Survivor Series should be fantastic.

Seth Rollins vs. Braun Strowman vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns

I enjoyed this match. Since there was more than two competitors in the match this one was No DQ or count out. This allowed for the usage of kendo sticks and a table. We almost had a Shield Powerbomb spot through the table but it was broken up. Out of everything this is the aspect I’m most interested in. Jericho ended up getting powerbombed through Braun Strowman who was laid out on a table. The closing moments saw Rollins Pedigree Jericho, Owens superkick Rollins, and Reigns Superman Punching Owens. The Universal Champion lands on his best friend and the referee counts to three! Owens pinned Jericho. Wow. A lot of storytelling going into Survivor Series.

Overall I felt this was a lackluster Raw. It’s been like that for a while. Aside from small bright spots in each show there is nothing that draws me in and makes me hate having to wait till next week for more. The approach to Survivor Series is certainly interesting, brings it back to the old days where these elimination matches meant something. Goldberg and Lesnar in the same ring since WrestleMania XX should entice viewers to watch next week, not to mention Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan coming to Raw.
