Raw Recap – 11/28/16

Tonight Raw comes from Charlotte (the place not the person)and what a night it will be. The New Day defend the Raw Tag Team Titles against Gallows and Anderson also Sasha Banks and Charlotte do battle one more time for the Raw Women’s Title!

Tonight’s Raw begins with a Highlight Reel segment with Chris Jericho and his special guest WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens. Owens makes fun of the American traditions of Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Owens says he is thankful he is the WWE Universal Champion and his best friend Chris Jericho. Y2J says he is thankful for his sailor scarf and Seth Rollins who he deems “a stupid idiot.” Jericho says he wasn’t in a Sin Cara mask, Sin Cara was in a Chris Jericho mask. Owens informs the crowd that Seth Rollins isn’t cleared so he isn’t in attendance, but Roman Reigns is.

Reigns comes down to the ring and goes back and forth with Owens over who is truly “the guy” in WWE. Reigns says if Owens didn’t have Jericho Owens probably wouldn’t be Universal Champion right now. Jericho goes to put Roman on “The List” but gets scolded by Owens. Jericho looks like a dejected stepchild and doesn’t say another word the whole segment. Reigns challenges Owens to a match tonight, should he win he and Owens do battle for the Universal Championship at Roadblock: End of the Line. Owens accepts and we go to commercial.

Back from break, Owens and Jericho get into a shouting match backstage. Looks like the friendship between Jericho and Owens is definitely over. Mick Foley interjects but Jericho isn’t having it and leaves.

R-Truth vs. Braun Strowman

What do you think happened? Braun killed R-Truth, then he killed Goldust, and then Sami Zayn who ran down to the ring with the intent of actually taking Strowman down. That didn’t work out well and thankfully Foley came down to the ring with a few referees to stop the carnage.

Back from break with Foley and Zayn in the ring. Foley is trying to protect Sami Zayn from himself, someone who doesn’t know when to quit. Mick is trying to protect Sami from the monster that is Braun Strowman but Zayn sees it as Foley is just Stephanie’s “Yes Man” and a hypocrite who is holding people back.

Tony Nese vs. Cedric Alexander

I’ve said this plenty of times but Tony Nese is a WWE Superstar if I’ve ever seen one. Fast, powerful, athletic, with a picture perfect physique. Same could be said about Cedric Alexander who received a monster reception from his hometown Charlotte crowd. Apparently there is a storyline thing going on between Alicia Fox and Cedric? Drew Gulak who accompanied Nese to the ring, distracted Alexander allowing Nese to hit Alexander with a pump-handle side slam. I really hope a secondary Cruiserweight feud is in the works. Don’t forget 205 Live, WWE’s Cruiserweight only show, premieres tomorrow after SmackDown Live on the WWE Network.

After doing an interview regarding the incidents that transpired tonight, Chris Jericho looks to take the rest of the night off. Before he enters his limo he is confronted by Seth Rollins who beats Jericho up and down the parking garage. Rollins ends his assault by hitting Jericho with a Pedigree on top of a car.

Charlotte and Sasha were set to do battle for the Raw Women’s Championship but the match ended in a double countout about five minutes into the match. Mick Foley comes out and says the match, let alone the rivalry between Banks and Charlotte, will not end this way. Later tonight the match will be restarted under No DQ, No Countout stipulations.

Rusev vs. Enzo Amore

Before the match Enzo does his usual bit, this one involving Lana catching an eyeful of Enzo last week. The bit ends with something about Enzo stuffing Lana’s turkey. The bell rings and Rusev goes to town on Enzo. He deliberately kicks Enzo in the ding ding to get disqualified. Can’t say I blame him.

Rich Swann vs. Noam Dar

Pretty decent quick paced technical match between these two. Swann gets the win with that sick spinning back kick. Swann goes up against Brian Kendrick for the Cruiserweight Championship on the inaugural episode of 205 Live.

Cesaro and Sheamus started a bar fight then drank a pint of Guinness. It was pretty freakin’ awesome.

Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens – If Reigns wins he is #1 Contender

Owens starts the match with a full on assault but Roman gets the upperhand outside. They battle back and forth outside before Owens rolls Roman in the ring and hits him with a senton. Back from commercial and Reigns is picking up steam. Owens stops him using the referee and a DDT but only for a two count. Cannonball to Reigns for a two count. Owens goes into Headlock Master mode. Owens breaks the hold just when Roman was fighting out and hits him with a senton. Right back to a rear chinlock from Owens. Reigns fights out and goes into full attack mode. Both men trade shots then Roman hits Kevin with a Samoan Drop. He goes for the Superman Punch but Owens rolls out of the ring. Owens beats him to the inside with a superkick but only for two. The battle back and forth and end up in the corner on the top rope. Owens fights off Reigns who leaps back with a Superman Punch. Owens wisely rolls out of the ring and while trying to get a moment to recover Reigns hits Owens with another Superman Punch. Reigns rolls Owens back into the ring and looks to end things with the Spear. Owens blocks the attempt and the two run the ropes where Owens gets hit with the Spear. Reigns gets the victory and becomes the #1 contender for the Universal Championship. The match takes place three weeks from now at Roadblock: End of the Line. Owens says the reason he lost the match was because he was too worried about his friend Chris Jericho.

Michael Cole conducted a sit down interview earlier in the day with Paul Heyman. The advocate for Brock Lesnar looked like a man who had not slept since last Sunday. Definitely has not shaved since that night. Is he crying? Oh my God he is crying. Here’s what it boils down to: Goldberg is in the Royale Rumble? Well so is Brock Lesnar.

The New Day (c) vs. Gallows and Anderson for the Raw Tag Team Championship

This was arguably Gallows and Anderson’s best match since coming to the WWE. Tons of great back and forth spots, near falls, even a sick neckbreaker combo from the top courtesy of Gallows and Anderson. The finish came when Anderson tried rolling up and grabbing the tights of Woods who reversed it and got the win with a handful of tights. Fun match. I wonder if they are going to make anything of New Day using sketchy ways to keep the titles?

Charlotte (c) vs. Sasha Banks – No DQ, Falls Count Anywhere Match for the Raw Women’s Championship

Somehow these two ladies can go out there and deliver an entertaining match every single time they go out there. Much like the others it wasn’t flawless but these two ladies used their chemistry to have the crowd in the palm of their hand. The battled on the outside for the bulk of the match and really did some fantastic work, even using a kendo stick to put over the brutal nature of the match. They work their way to the announcer’s area where Charlotte lands a beautiful moonsault but only gets a two count. The battle through the crowd ultimately settling on the stairs leading up the arena. Sasha traps Charlotte in the guardrail of the stairs and starts mashing her with her knees. She then locks her hands under the chin of Charlotte and wrenches back, using the guardrail to perform a modified Banks Statement. Charlotte has no choice but to tap from the excruciating pain. Sasha Banks is now a three time Women’s Champion.

The show ends with Sasha celebrating in the ring when suddenly the music of Ric Flair hits and out comes the Nature Boy. He raises the hand of Sasha and the two hug in the ring before Flair exits leaving the ring to Sasha.

Overall I thought this was another good episode of Raw. Both advertised Championship matches really delivered quality wrestling. I’m also interested in seeing what happens next between Strowman and Zayn.
