The last SmackDown Live before TLC!
SmackDown kicks off with a contract signing between Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch for their SmackDown Women’s Championship match at TLC this Sunday. Really looking forward to this one, both women can go in the ring and are very entertaining on the mic. Just when you think a contract can go smoothly without any carnage, Lynch gets sick or Alexa badgering her with the constant Irish stereotypes and begins to beat Alexa down. She sets up Alexa on the top rope corner and looks to hit her with a Bex-plex through the table. Alexa rakes Becky’s eye and shoves her sending her crashing into the table. To commercial break we go.
Dolph Ziggler and Kalisto vs. Baron Corbin and The Miz
Kalisto almost had this one in the bag but Baron Corbin came in and smashed him in the back with a chair resulting in a disqualification. This Sunday Kalisto and Corbin do battle in a Chairs Match while Dolph and The Miz do battle over the Intercontinental Championship for 8453rd and final time in a Ladder Match.
Nikki Bella and Carmella were supposed to do battle tonight (why before their No DQ Match I have no clue) but prior to the match Carmella has some pretty nasty words for John Cena regarding what she was going to do to Nikki this Sunday. Nikki comes sprinting down to the ring and lays a beating into Carmella who retreats in fear up the stage.
The Ambrose Asylum segment with James Ellsworth as the special basically turned into a face to face between Ambrose and his opponent at TLC AJ Styles. After Styles and Ambrose go back and forth talking trash Styles pushes Ellsworth into Ambrose who goes smashing into a ladder. Styles disposes of Ambrose on the outside and goes to town on a defenseless Ellsworth. AJ caps off the assault by hitting Ellsworth with a Styles Clash on the outside of steel steps. James Ellsworth is put on a stretcher and carted off in an ambulance. Even JBL is sad.
Kane vs. Luke Harper
This was a slow paced match between two men that was actually pretty good. Before the match Bray told Harper to get the job done against Kane which unfortunately he did not do. Kane picks up the win with a Chokeslam.
Looks like due to the fight between Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss to start SmackDown, their match at TLC is now a Tables Match. Docs say Becky suffered a spinal bruise. How will that affect her Sunday?
Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton vs. American Alpha – Winners will be the #1 Contenders for the SD Tag Team Championships
Very good tag team match. It basically boiled down to American Alpha’s speed and amateur wrestling background against the slow, methodical, ground and pound pace of Orton and Wyatt. Both Orton and Wyatt work really well together and for some odd reason Orton in the Wyatt stable just fits. American Alpha should be bigger deals than they are currently. They have all the makings to develop a strong fan base and elevate the Tag Division more so than now. I like the intertwined story of Harper feeling like an outcast in his own “family” for the new guy. How that keeps coming to play will be very interesting. Speaking of Luke Harper, just as American Alpha have this match won the lights go out and when they turn back on there is Luke Harper. He saves Bray from getting smashed in the corner by Jason Jordan allowing Bray to hit Jason with Sister Abigail for the win. They will face Slater and Rhyno this Sunday for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles.
The show closes with AJ Styles interrupting a backstage interview with the Tag Team Champs. Out of nowhere comes Dean Ambrose who beats the hell out of AJ up and down the room as we fade to black.
Another solid episode of SmackDown. Seems they went the safe side in hyping up TLC. It may just surprise some and be a better show than we expected.
