Dean Ambrose

SmackDown Live Recap -12/13/16

Tonight SmackDown is in our Nation’s Capital, Washington D.C.! We will see the newly crowned Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss in action as well as a Tag Team Battle Royal to determine new number one contenders!

Tonight SmackDown Live is from Washington, DC and before the show begins James Ellsworth is backstage with Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon. Looks like Ellsworth is under the weather and unable to compete in his championship match against AJ Styles. Ellsworth hacked all over Daniel Bryan’s face. Gross.

We start off SD with Miz TV with special guest AJ Styles. The WWE Champion proclaims that no one on the SD roster is on his level. The Miz takes exception to that claim saying that while AJ has been a great WWE Champion, Miz has elevated the Intercontinental Championship to legendary status. Miz asks why doesn’t he do the same for the WWE Championship? Before both men could brawl out comes Dean Ambrose. He gets in the ring and both men exit. Dolph Ziggler comes down to the ring and calls both Styles and Miz paper champions known for cheating. Miz goes to attack Dolph and the two begin to brawl. Miz hits Dolph with the Skull Crushing Finale. Dean hits Miz with Dirty Deeds. AJ just walks up the ramp because why should he get involved? Dean hits Dolph with Dirty Deeds just because. Suddenly Luke Harper appears and takes Dean’s head of with a Discus Lariat.

Styles heads backstage to ask Daniel Bryan. Instead it is announced that tonight Ambrose, Ziggler, Miz, and Harper will compete in a Fatal Four Way Elimination Match. Should anyone get involved that isn’t in the matchup it will result in a DQ elimination. The winner will face AJ Styles for the WWE Championship on the final SmackDown Live of the year, 12/27.

Natalya vs. Carmella

Carmella has been accusing Natalya of being the person who attacked Nikki Bella, who’s on commentary, before the Women’s Survivor Series match. The match itself wasn’t half bad with Carmella looking better in the ring. Things broke down when Natalya tried to plead her case to Nikki during the match. Natalya shoved Nikki out of the way of an attack from Carmella. Natalya rolls Carmella back into the ring and goes in after her. She goes to grab Carmella who rolls Natalya up and gets the three count! Carmella caught everyone by surprise with that one.

Tag Team Battle Royal

I really like the idea of both members of a team must be thrown over the top rope for a team to be eliminated from the match. Major moments of the match saw Heath Slater accidentally eliminating his own partner Rhyno. Konnor of The Ascension and Tyler Breeze teamed up to dump Jason Jordan thus eliminating American Alpha. Konnor eliminated Heath Slater and Tyler Breeze only to get dumped out by Zack Ryder! The Hype Bros will challenge The Wyatt Family for the SD Tag Team Titles!

Alexa Bliss was set to take on Deonna Purazzo but attacked mid promo. Becky Lynch comes out and would like to have her rematch for the SD Women’s Championship. Alexa declines but Commissioner Shane McMahon has final rule and says we will have that match right now!

Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Becky Lynch for the SD Women’s Championship

The match was going fine and was actually turning into a good watch until Alexa tweaks her knee on the outside. She is unable to answer the referee’s ten count and subsequently loses the match via count out. Per the rules a title cannot change hands via a count out unless previously specified. A frustrated Becky Lynch goes out and attacks Bliss. Both women trade shots and Alexa’s knee seems to be working just fine. She almost gets trapped in the Disarmer but was able to escape the ring. She then remembers she has a bummed knee. Good job Alexa.

Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz vs. Luke Harper – #1 Contender Elimination Match

Much of the beginning of the match was dominated by Luke Harper who destroyed anything that moved. The first elimination came as a surprise with Ambrose rolling up the Miz after he tried to pin Ziggler than Harper. Back from break with Ambrose and Ziggler working in the ring with Harper on the outside. Once Harper is back in the ring he once again takes over the match and looks to have things well in hand. Harper has Ziggler and Ambrose set up in opposite corners. He goes to run on Ziggler who catches Harper with a superkick. Off the impact Harper turns around right into a Dirty Deeds from Ambrose and is eliminated. Ambrose and Ziggler have great back and forth sequences with a couple of neat near falls. Suddenly The Miz appears but is taken out of the equation thanks to a tope suicide from Ambrose. Dean goes to back into the ring and gets caught with a wicked superkick from Ziggler. The Show Off falls on top of Dean! 1…2…3! Dolph Ziggler is your new number one contender! Ziggler and the WWE Champion AJ Styles get into a stare down to close the show.

SmackDown continues to be the most logical, well thought out show the WWE has to offer. Gone are the days where getting through the show is a chore (unlike Raw) and everything has a purpose.
