SmackDown Live Recap – 3/14/17

What does Bray have to say after Sister Abigail’s corpse was burned? Nikki Bella and John Cena will be face to face with The Miz and Maryse on Miz TV, and more!

SmackDown kicks off with AJ Styles coming down to the ring to air his grievances against Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon. AJ is tired of jumping through hoops to get a rematch for the WWE Championship. He has won matches and Battle Royales yet he does not even have a match at WrestleMania. He says he and Shane need to have a conversation about Styles’ career tonight.

Becky Lynch vs. Natalya

Nothing noteworthy outside of it was a pretty decent match with some good back and forth between both women. Becky wins the match with the Disarmer Armbar. After the match Becky was attacked by Carmella.

MizTV w/ John Cena and Nikki Bella

This MizTV segment was just meant to bash Nikki and John. Maryse explains her beef with Nikki is over a missed contract opportunity with Total Divas. Nikki and Maryse were close friends at the time, Nikki convinced Maryse to holdout on signing the contract for the first season of Total Divas while she tried to get them more money. WWE eventually pulled the deal for all the women, or so Maryse thought. She gets a text from Nikki out of nowhere who was at WWE TV tapings and she wanted to inform her she just inked a deal for Total Divas. Maryse was left out in the cold which subsequently led to her absence for WWE. Maryse is looking for revenge for loss time and money. John Cena and Nikki Bella make their presence know and of course Miz and Maryse high tail it out of the ring. Nikki takes some verbal shots at Maryse when we are joined by GM Daniel Bryan. Daniel says for the longest time Daniel has wanted to punch Miz in the face. For cutting him off, stealing his moves, and just generally being a pain in the ass, Daniel just wants to punch Miz in the face. Sadly he can’t but he does know two people who can. That is why at WrestleMania Miz and Maryse will take on John Cena and Nikki Bella!

Mickie James vs. Alexa Bliss

This was a very physical, ground and pound match from both ladies. In the closing moments Alexa hit Mickie with a forearm that I swore knocked Mickie clean out. Instead of going for the pin and getting a victory Alexa decided to try and inflict more damage. Her plan backfired as Mickie was able to round off a Mick Kick for the win.

Backstage AJ Styles looks to be waiting for the arrival of Shane McMahon. When Shane doe arrive he is attacked in vicious fashion. AJ tops off the attack by sending Shane head first into a car window. When we come back from break AJ is confronted by Daniel Bryan who is flanked by security. Daniel Bryan has fired AJ Styles! Can’t say he doesn’t deserve it.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Mojo Rawley

Nothing major of note in this one. Dolph decided to call it an early night and get himself counted out.

Randy Orton came down to the ring and let the WWE Universe in on his entire plan which him infiltrate the Wyatt Family, gain the trust of Bray Wyatt, then when the time was right, screw Bray Wyatt by burning the corpse and resting place of Sister Abigail. Randy’s plan was to strip Bray of his power and leave him feeling all alone. Just one problem, according to Bray the evil soul of Sister Abigail still lives and she has given all of her powers to Bray. The “Eater of Worlds” then takes the ashes of Sister Abigail and begins rubbing them all over his body as some sort of baptism ritual. Creepy, dark, and totally out of the box stuff from Bray. I love it.

Backstage Baron Corbin doesn’t seem too apologetic for his actions last week injuring Dean Ambrose. He lays down the challenge to Dean at WrestleMania for his Intercontinental Title.

American Alpha vs. The Usos

Great match in the almost forgotten Tag Division on SmackDown. Lots of quick back and forth offense with some great suplex variations from Gable. I really enjoyed the closing sequence. AA went to set up for the electric chair/bulldog combo but one of the Usos was able to knock Gable off the turnbuckle. Gable gets his foot caught in the turnbuckle. Jordan gets hit with a Superkick and the Uso that was on his shoulder rolls Jordan up for the win. I wonder what we’ll see from American Alpha at WrestleMania.

Shane McMahon was being escorted to a nearby hospital by Jamie Noble and Fit Finlay but before leaving Shane decided he needed to get something off his mind. He walks through the Gorilla position, grabs a live mic, and goes out to the stage entrance. AJ said he did not have an opponent at WrestleMania? Well now he does. The show closes with Shane challenging AJ to a match at WrestleMania. Wow.

I enjoyed tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live. The creativity behind the Bray Wyatt/Randy Orton angle gets better and better. After a ton of negative reaction from the Internet at the rumored match between AJ and Shane, the setup tonight was amazingly done.
