NXT Recap #382 – 3/15/17

Bobby Roode defends the NXT Championship against Kassius Ohno!

Ealy Brothers vs. Authors of Pain

Pretty much a squash match although Gabriel Ealy started the match with some offense. Razar hits Gabriel with a vicious clothesline then AoP hit both Brothers with the Super Collider Powerbombs. Last Chapter seals the deal for the Authors of Pain who get the win. Paul Ellering gets on the mic taking exception with The Revival calling themselves the greatest team of all time. DIY come down to the ring and lay claim to being #1 Contenders for the NXT Tag Team Titles since Revival interfered in their rematch a few weeks back. Revival come out and still angry they had to sit out the last TakeOver special. NXT GM William Regal comes out and makes a match for TakeOver: Orlando. Authors of Pain will defend the Tag Titles against DIY and The Revival in a 3-way Elimination Match.

NXT aired a fantastic video package on Asuka dominant reign as Women’s Champion. This vignette did an amazing job showcasing the brilliant undefeated streak of Asuka as well as looking ahead to her match against Ember Moon at TakeOver: Orlando.

Nikki Cross vs. Macy Estrella

One sided match. Nikki Cross’ antics and lunacy intrigue me. She destroyed this Macy girl with five rolling neckbreakers. It was nuts. After the match Tye Dillinger and No Way Jose tried to jump Sanity from behind but ended up getting wrecked in the ring. Next week Sanity will on Tye and No Way Jose and Roderick Strong in a 6 Man Tag Match.

We were about to get an update on Billie Kay after getting knocked loopy thanks to an Eclipse Stunner from Ember Moon when Andrade “Cien” Almas is seen in the background causing a scene with Ho Ho Lun. Oney Lorcan steps in defense of Lun because Lorcan doesn’t like bullies. Lorcan and Almas will do battle next week.

Bobby Roode (c) vs. Kassius Ohno for the NXT Championship

Superb match. For those that do not know Kassius Ohno or his in ring style what makes him so great is the fact that he can do anything. Technical, brawling, striking, lucha, you name this guy is a master at it. For those familiar with his work will be happy to know that not much of his offense has changed including his precision striking which he is known for the most. I loved the fact that Roode neutralized Ohno’s offense by grounding him in the center of the ring. That was short lived as Kassius was able to swing things in his favor with great strikes. It looked like he was going for a knockout blow but his rolling elbow strike sent Roode out of the ring. Kassius quickly got Roode back in the ring and hit a senton right on the money but only for a two count. The two men get to their feet with Kassius holding Roode by the waist from behind. Roode wisely runs right into the ropes and ducks so Kassius doesn’t see the rope coming. The top rope goes right into the throat of Kassius sending him for a loop. Roode traps Kassius and drops him with a Glorious DDT. Roode gets the three count and retains the NXT Championship. Again great match, definitely give it a watch.

Looks like the main event for NXT TakeOver: Orlando will be Bobby Roode defending the NXT Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura.
