SmackDown Live Recap – 7/4/17; Cena is Back!

John Cena is back and we’re getting a rap battle hosted by Wale!

John Cena is back! He lets us know he is back and a little annoyed at people calling him a part-timer. John Cena is an all-timer and if someone wants to change that they are going to have to go at it with him. Hence the reason he is considered a free agent. Cena is giving anyone on Raw or SmackDown Live a chance to go toe to toe with Cena before anyone gives him the boot. Cena is interrupted by the returning Rusev who takes the chance to mock Americans and how we celebrate our independence. Cena challenges Rusev to a Flag Match but he does not accept the challenge. I have a feeling things will change.

In GM Daniel Bryan’s office, he has a meeting between AJ Styles and Chad Gable. Bryan makes a “Win and You’re in” Match between both men. Win the match and you’re in the Independence Day Battle Royal to determine a Number One Contender for the United States Championship.

AJ Styles vs. Chad Gable

Really fun back and forth match. Great chain action mixed with great submission wrestling. In the end, AJ catches Gable with the Phenomenal Forearm for the win and a spot in the Independence Battle Royal.

Speaking of the Independence Battle Royal, the Hype Bros Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley will also be in.

Carmella comes out to gloat about winning the Money in the Bank once again but Women’s Champion Naomi comes out to put her in her place. GM Daniel Bryan comes out to the ring to inform Carmella’s lackey James Ellsworth he is barred from the ring, fined $10K, and suspended for thirty days! Wow! Also if he doesn’t exit immediately Carmella will be stripped of the MITB Contract.

Naomi (c) vs. Lana – SmackDown Live Women’s Championship Match

Naomi countered a roll up into a submission in about 25 seconds. Okay.

Tamina Snuka appears and escorts Lana to the back.

Shinsuke Nakamura is attacked by Baron Corbin backstage.

That John Cena/Rusev Flag Match will happen at WWE Battleground.

The New Day/Usos Rap Battle was amazing.

Randy Orton vs. Aiden English

Man, Aiden English almost had this one. Okay no he didn’t that was a lie I’m sorry.

Independence Day Battle Royal

Pretty standard stuff here. Mojo Rawley eliminated his own partner in Zack Ryder. The final two competitors came down to AJ Styles and Sami Zayn. The action spilled to the apron where Style catches Zayn with a Pele Kick to win the Number One Contendership for the US Title. Kevin Owens will defend the title at Battleground.

Pretty good SmackDown Live. What did you guys think? Comment below or reach out to us on Social Media:
