SmackDown Live Recap – 11/13/18

Tonight is the last stop before SmackDown Live. Tonight we are live from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, MO.

Tonight’s SmackDown Live kicks off with a video package for the end of last night’s Raw.┬áThe announcement is made that Becky Lynch cannot compete this weekend at Survivor Series due to the injuries sustained in last night’s brawl. The interesting thing to note is they specifically mentioned Nia Jax being the culprit to Becky’s injury. Apparently, Becky suffered a broken face and a concussion.

WWE Champion AJ Styles comes down to the ring to talk about his match Sunday with the Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. Styles is interrupted by the advocate for Lesnar Paul Heyman. The reason for Heyman being here is to obviously hype up Sunday’s match. Heyman tries to play mind games with Styles by giving him an underhanded compliment. Styles is as good as he is made out to be BUT he barely was able to make Daniel Bryan tap to keep the title. Styles rebuttal is simple, no matter what Bryan tapped and Styles won the match. Daniel Bryan comes down to the ring as he takes exception to his name being involved in this conversation. Bryan wars Styles that if he mentions Bryan by name again Daniel will gladly punch him in the mouth. Styles let Bryan know Heyman was the who brought Bryan up but Styles doesn’t care for Daniel’s threats. Bryan and Styles get into a brawl and have to be separated by Shane McMahon and other officials. When we come back from commercial there is a wild shouting match. Shane McMahon diffuses the situation by making a match. Daniel Bryan vs. AJ Styles…for the WWE Championship.

Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Jeff Hardy: Decent match. Almas looked dominant throughout the match. Almas continues to have great outings on a consistent basis. Jeff Hardy gets a quick comeback with a Twist of Fate Stunner and a Swanton. Hardy gets the three count.

The Miz and SmackDown GM Paige are watching backstage. Paige makes the announcement that Daniel Bryan is off the Survivor Series team and The Miz is the sole captain of the team. The Miz was impressed with Jeff Hardy’s victory so The Miz adds Jeff to the team. The Miz tried to veto Bryan’s pick of Rey Mysterio but Paige says if Miz wants Rey off the team he is going to have to beat him in a match next.

Shinsuke Nakamura takes exception to Seth Rollins saying he hasn’t even thought about their match at Survivor Series. Shinsuke says he’s been obsessing over Rollins and Shinsuke can’t wait to break Rollins’ face.

The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio: Mysterio controls the pace early in the match and takes the action to the outside. Rey goes for the baseball slide through to the outside but The Miz gets his knees up to block the impact. Back from break with The Miz on offense. Mysterio gets a comeback in and hits The Miz with 619. Mysterio goes for the Dive but Miz gets his knees up before the impact. The Miz rolls Mysterio up but only gets a two count. The Miz is in shock that didn’t put Mysterio and this allows Mysterio to slide Miz back for a pin and the three count.

Looks like security is beefed up in the event Raw tries to invade SmackDown tonight.

Becky Lynch is backstage and we will hear from her after the break. She will be naming her replacement for Survivor Series.

Charlotte Flair is interviewed backstage after being handpicked by Becky to be her replacement against Ronda Rousey. Charlotte says she has spent months fighting Becky, last night she fought alongside Becky, and Sunday she will fight for Becky.

The Bar and the Big Show vs. The New Day: I’m digging the Big Show’s alliance with The Bar but I can’t pinpoint why he just fits with the group. The trio does a good job of keeping Woods from making a tag to his teammates. Woods gets some space after a missile dropkick and gets the tag to Kofi. Sheamus breaks up a pin and drops Big E with a Brogue Kick. Big Show wipes out Xavier Woods while Kofi and Cesaro duke it out in the ring. Big Show gets the tag in and Kofi tries to drop him with a kick off the top but Show hits Kofi with a KO Punch for the win.

The Usos assemble their squad for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Squad. The New Day, The Colons, Gallows & Anderson, plus SANITY round out the team. Welcome to the SmackDown Penitentiary.

AJ Styles (c) vs. Daniel Bryan – WWE Championship Match: AJ went back to his strategy of targeting Daniel Bryan’s legs. Bryan is able to take things to the outside to work the left arm of Styles then back in the ring to take over. Bryan really working the left arm over in the ring. Styles is able to fight back and we have a back and forth between both men ending with them colliding into each other when they both went for a cross body. You can tell the abuse Daniel has taken to his legs has really affected his mobility. Both men battle in the corner leaving AJ in the Tree of Woe. Bryan caps it off with a belly to back suplex for a two count. Styles blocks the final Yes Kick and attempts Styles Clash but it is blocked by Bryan. A back and forth strike battle ends with a Pele Kick from AJ. The Champion attempts a Springboard 450 but Daniel gets his knees up and slaps on the Yes Lock. Styles able to get to the ropes. After a brief struggle Styles locks on the Calf Crusher but Bryan reverses out of it. Styles blocks an armbar attempt and is able to create some separation between him and Bryan. Styles goes for the Phenomenal Forearm but Bryan ducks out of the way sending Styles into the referee. While the referee is coming to Daniel Bryan does the unthinkable. Daniel Bryan kicks AJ below the belt. The referee doesn’t see the evil doing and Bryan finishes it off with a Running Knee. Daniel Bryan pins Styles and gets the three count. Daniel Bryan is announced as the new WWE Champion and the crowd is stunned silent. The deed isn’t even able to set in before Daniel Bryan begins to stomp away at the face of Styles. There is a sick, sadistic smile across the smile of Bryan as he clutches his new WWE Championship.

Survivor Series has been turned upside down just days away from the big show. What are your thoughts on the show changes? Are you still excited for Survivor Series?
