NXT Recap – 12/12/18

Tonight’s episode of NXT begins with Undisputed Era making their way down to the ring. Before Bobby Fish’s match with EC3 Adam Cole makes a promise to his comrades, 2019 the Undisputed Era will be draped in Championship gold.

Bobby Fish vs. EC3: The beginning of the match was dominated by EC3. Lots of power based offense from EC3. The other members of Undisputed Era jump the apron and EC3 falls for the trap. Bobby Fish comes from behind and hits EC3 with a chop block to the already damaged knee. Fish keeps the attack on EC3’s knee with strikes and leg attacks. After a brief punch battle, EC3 whips Fish into the ropes and the momentum gives Fish a whiplash snap between the top and second rope. Undisputed Era tries for another distraction but EC3 fights them off. Fish once again attacks the knee leaving EC3 seared in the middle of the ring. Fish goes in for another attack but EC3 catches Fish off guard with a roll up and the surprise win!

Undisputed Era not happy with the outcome jump EC3. Heavy Machinery runs down to the ring and makes the save. They run off Undisputed Era but Kyle O’Reilly is unable to escape. O’Reilly is on the wrong side of a Worm Elbow Drop from Otis Dozivic.

Dakota Kai and Io Shirai have challenge Marina Shaffir and Jessamyn Duke to a Tag match next week.

The Mighty vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch: This one starts off like it was shot out of a cannon. Eventually, Nick Miller is able to slow things down. Lorcan is able to get the tag to Butch who dominates the match. It’s a little hard to keep up as the match swings from one team to another with every move. A miscommunication during a double team slap battle leaves Shane Thorne alone to get hit with an Assisted High Angle DDT. Burch and Lorcan get the W.

The Steel Cage Match between Aleister Black and Johnny Gargano will happen next week on NXT TV. Holy moly.

Mia Yim vs. Reina Gonzalez: The winner for this one will be added to the Fatal 4 Way to determine a new Number One Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. Lacey Evans has qualified for the said match by defeating Xia Lee at an NXT live event. Gonzalez had a great showing in this year’s Mae Young Classic against Kacy Catanzaro. Gonzalez gives off major Stan Hansen vibes. Yim has been on a hot streak since getting signed to NXT by the size and trouble of Gonzalez is giving Yim a lot of trouble. Yim fights out of a Torture Rack and lights Gonzalez up with chops. Yim hits Gonzalez with Eat Defeat and gets the win. Yim joins Bianca Belair and Lacey Evans in the above mentioned Fatal 4 Way match.

Ricochet (c) vs. Tyler Breeze for the NXT North American Championship: Oh wow the Prince Pretty of NXT is back in NXT! This one was a definite clash of styles with Breeze trying to keep Ricochet grounded. Breeze is trying to keep up but Ricochet is too quick. A strike battle Breeze dropping Ricochet with a crossbody. Breeze hits a Supermodel Kick and a Reverse Hurricanrana for a two! More back and forth with Ricochet flipping around like a real-life Spider-Man but the finish was quite interesting. Breeze goes for the Beauty Shot spin kick but Ricochet catches him and puts Breeze on his shoulders. Ricochet drops Breeze with a cross-legged Michinoku Driver and gets the win. A really fast-paced fun match for the crowd. Ricochet gives the ring to Tyler Breeze and heads up the ramp as NXT comes to an end this week.
