Tonight’s Raw from Los Angeles kicks off with Elias in the ring making fun of the residents of LA. It looks like Elias is the special guest referee for the Universal Championship match at Stomping Grounds between Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin. Before Elias can get out another sentence he is attacked by Seth Rollins with a chair. Rollins gets on the mic and threatens anyone who attempts to make themselves the referee for the match at Stomping Grounds they would suffer the same fate. As Seth Rollins exits the ring The Miz comes down the ramp for the Fatal 5 Way Elimination Match. The winner of said match will be the #1 Contender for the US Championship and will face Champion Samoa Joe at Stomping Grounds. The Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale. Bobby Lashley comes down to the ring and hits Elias with a Spear. The next competitor Cesaro comes down to the ring and gives Elias a Swing. Ricochet is next up and hits a Codebreaker. Braun Strowman is the last to come down to the ring, hitting Elias with a running Power Slam.
The Miz vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Cesaro vs. Ricochet vs. Braun Strowman: Braun eliminates Cesaro rather quickly by Power Slamming Bobby Lashley onto Cesaro. Not long after Cesaro suffered the same fate. Braun is completely dominating. Bobby Lashley and Cesaro attack Strowman. Ricochet hits the 630 and eliminates Strowman with the help of Cesaro and Lashley. Strowman goes nuts and destroys everyone. It comes down to Ricochet and The Miz. Both men have a great exchange showing there is some chemistry within the clash of styles. Ricochet reverses a Figure Four. Figure Four gets reversed back by The Miz and Ricochet gets to the rope. Moments later Ricochet hits a Codebreaker putting Miz in the perfect position for the 630. Ricochet hits it and gets the win. Ricochet now has a match with Samoa Joe who attacks Ricochet from behind. Ricochet gets the upper hand sending Joe to the outside and hitting him with a moonsault plancha.
When we come back from commercial break the Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch calls out Lacey Evans. Both women trade barbs with the message from Lacey continuing to say Becky is not proper enough to be Women’s Champion. I thought it was hilarious that as Lacey is cutting her promo Becky just yanks her and hits her with a Bexploder Suplex. Becky exits the ring.
We cut to the new Raw Tag Team Champions The Revival entering the VIP lounge occupied by Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre. Champagne is poppin’!
Baron Corbin says he is going to announce his backup choice for special guest referee on a special edition of the Kevin and Sami Show. Corbin is attacked by Rollins with a chair.
We come back from a commercial break and we are graced with the presence of SmackDown Tag Team Champions Rowan and Daniel Bryan. The “impotent masses of Los Angeles” are given a rant as to why both LA and Raw suck. Tonight we will see Bryan take on Seth Rollins. We get a staredown between Rowan & Bryan and the War Raiders.
War Raiders vs. Local Talent: How do you think this went?
R-Truth and Carmella were sitting ringside disguised as, well I have no clue what Truth was wearing but Carmella was disguised as Charlie Chaplin. Carmella and Truth are chased throughout the arena.
When we come back from commercial Heath Slater is entering the VIP lounge. The reason Heath is there is to ask Shane McMahon for a raise. Shane says he respects Heath coming in there like a man and asking but he declines Heath’s request and gives him the boot. Drew follows behind. Outside Heath is on the phone with his significant other when Drew offers some cash. Drew feels bad because he knows Heath’s family personally going back to their 3MB days. There is a fumble of money and when Heath isn’t looking Drew blasts him in the face and begins beating Heath down viciously. Drew gets pulled off of Heath by Shane and The Revival and the Tag Champs did not hesitate to retrieve some dollar bills.
It’s time for the Kevin and Sami Show with special guest Baron Corbin who is going to announce his next choice for an official to referee his match against Seth Rollins at Stomping Grounds. Sami was choice number one and got beat down last week. This week Elias gets the beating. Who’s next in line? Poor EC3. After he gets whacked to sleep The New Day comes down to the ring and challenges KO, Sami, and Baron to a six-man tag. They use EC3 to make the match official, Weekend at Bernie’s style.
After the break, AJ Styles is in the trainer’s room when he is joined by Gallows and Karl Anderson. Styles gives Gallows and Anderson a tongue lashing for looking complacent since coming to WWE. AJ wonders what happened to the team he met in Japan. This fires Gallows and Anderson up. They have a match against The Usos later tonight.
The New Day vs. Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Baron Corbin: During the commercial break it was announced this match would be 2 out of 3 falls. The bad guys do a good job keeping Woods away from his teammates before getting a roll up to secure the first fall. Back from commercial break with Big E getting beat down by the opposing team. Even though New Day is up one fall this match is pretty onesided. Big E hits a belly to belly Suplex and gets the tag to WWE Champion Kofi Kingston. The Champion is on fire taking control of the match until he gets hit with a Deep Six. During an exchange Baron Corbin accidentally hits Zayn with a clothesline. A pissed off Kevin Owens hits Corbin with a Superkick. Kofi follows up with a Trouble in Paradise and gets the win for his team.
Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss will challenge The IIconics tonight for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Also in the building for Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman.
Paul Heyman says Seth Rollins is a lot like LA, they both traded away their balls (get it?). Heyman teases the idea of Brock Lesnar being in attendance and waiting for Rollins’ match tonight to cash in his Money in the Bank contract. Heyman isn’t going to really spill the beans.
Backstage Baron Corbin is talking to Eric Young about possibly reffing his match against Rollins. Young tells Corbin he would think about it. A few feet away Rollins was spying in on the conversation. Young tries to plead his case but he has nothing to worry about since he and Rollins go way back. Sike! Rollins goes crazy on Eric Young with a steel chair.
My cable went out during The Usos vs. Gallows match and came back just in time to hear Hulk Hogan bark about Women’s Soccer…yay.
Roman Reigns goes down to the ring and calls Shane McMahon out. Shane declines Roman’s invite via big screen where he gives the floor to Drew McIntyre who says he will assault Roman until it becomes uncomfortable. McIntyre brings up Roman’s family and that was enough to send Reigns on the hunt. The Revival find Roman first but get dropped. Roman enters the VIP lounge and puts McIntyre through a table. Roman captures Shane by the ring and lays a beating into him. Roman tells Shane to crawl to the back and tell Drew he is going to whoop his ass on Sunday.
The IIconics (c) vs. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross for the WWE Tag Team Championships: SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley is sitting ringside. This is Nikki Cross’ first title opportunity in WWE. Alexa Bliss was knocked off the apron and begins jaw jacking with Bayley. Cross gets rolled up and Bliss gets yanked back down not allowing her to break up the pin. The IIconics win and retain the titles. Backstage Nikki is not happy and is starting to believe the things Alexa has been saying about Bayley.
The Firefly Funhouse is starting to get super creepy and I’m really interested in seeing how this translates to live in the ring.
Seth Rollins vs. Daniel Bryan (w/ Rowan): This one ended pretty quickly thanks to Rowan hitting Rollins with a Claw Slam. The New Day, Usos, The Revival, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn all begin brawling in the ring. Mike Rome makes the announcement that the match will be restarted and no one will be allowed at ringside. So all of that was for nothing essentially. The match restarts with Bryan on offense. I was looking forward to this match as both men come from similar backgrounds and compliment each other’s styles very well. I was not disappointed. This was a back and forth, hard-hitting affair mixed in with some nice technical work from Bryan. Rollins counters Bryan’s Running Knee while Bryan kicks out of Rollins’ offense and counters a frog splash into a LaBell Lock. Rollins hits Bryan with an enziguiri and follows it up with a Curbstomp for the win. Good stuff.
As Seth Rollins is celebrating his win at the top of the ramp Baron Corbin comes out of nowhere and smashes Rollins with a steel chair. Corbin rolls Rollins back into the ring and hits Rollins with the End of Days. Corbin relishes in his handy work as Raw goes off the air.
