SmackDown Live Recap – 6/18/19

The New Day kicks off SmackDown but they are quickly interrupted by Dolph Ziggler who would like to remind Kofi that this Sunday Kofi will not have the help of his friends because the match will be inside of a steel cage. Kofi reminded Dolph that his journey to the WWE Championship began inside a cage, the Elimination Chamber. Dolph does that overacting bit where he yells “It should be me!” and exits. Tonight Dolph will be taking on New Day member Xavier Woods.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Xavier Woods: As the match was happening Big E and Kofi was attacked by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. The referee gives everyone the boot from ringside. From here Dolph takes over the match slowing the pace down. We come back from commercial with Xavier Woods making his comeback. Woods is hitting some big moves but is only getting a two count. Both men are on the apron when Ziggler hit Woods with a Superkick that was on the button and Woods goes crashing to the floor. We are back in the ring when Ziggler hit a Zig Zag for two. Ziggler traps Woods’ arm over the top rope. Dolph connects with a Superkick and gets the win.

Backstage there is a line outside of the dressing room of Baron Corbin.

Coming back from break and it is time for A Moment of Bliss with Alexa Bliss with her special friend Nikki Cross. The special guest for tonight’s Moment of Bliss is SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley who has Alexa’s coffee. Bayley tries reasoning with Nikki and letting her know that Alexa is just using her. According to Bliss, Bayley has been rude to her since her days in NXT. Bayley has references (Nia Jax and Mickie James) to show she is just a manipulator. The two trade verbal shots before resorting to blows. Nikki pulls Bayley off Alexa and begins yelling at Bayley. Alexa blindsides Bayley with a shot to the face.

Backstage Apollo Crews runs into Zelina Vega. Apollo wants Zelina to pass a message to Andrade that he is looking for him. Andrade attacks Apollo from behind.

B-Team vs. Heavy Machinery: The tag Champs Rowan and Daniel Bryan are on commentary. Bryan is quite complimentary of Heavy Machinery but says that they take the Tag Team as a joke. The match isn’t anything noteworthy, it was more of a showcase for Heavy Machinery ahead of their match against Bryan and Rowan Sunday before Stomping Grounds. Heavy Machinery gets the win with the Compactor. After the match, the B-Team is attacked by Seth Rollins with a chair. A word to the wise, don’t talk to Baron Corbin.

Shane McMahon pulls up to the arena and is approached by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens who are complaining that Universal Champion Seth Rollins and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston are bad people. Shane makes a 2 out of 3 Falls Tag Team match for tonight. Kevin and Sami going up against Kofi Kingston and Seth Rollins.

Shane McMahon arrives ringside with Elias and Drew McIntyre. While Drew is trash talking his opponent for Sunday’s Stomping Grounds Roman Reigns, they are interrupted by The Miz who wants to play highlights of Roman beating up Shane and his goons. The Miz goes on to say that he is sick of Shane hogging all of the programming for himself and his crew. Miz blames himself for starting Shane on this path of being Best in the World and letting the power go to his head. Shane books a tag match and gives The Miz ten seconds to find a partner. 24/7 Champion R-Truth happened to be walking around possibly hiding and now finds himself in a Tag Team Elimination Match.

The Miz and R-Truth vs. Drew McIntyre and Elias: McIntyre and Elias are working R-Truth over really good preventing him from making a tag to The Miz. When he looks like he is going to be able to get the tag, The Miz is pulled off the apron by Shane McMahon. Elias hits Truth with a high knee in the corner and pins Truth for three. Now that R-Truth is eliminated all of the Superstars want a piece of R-Truth and the 24/7 Championship. The Miz had shown a lot of effort but in the end, Drew hits Miz with a Claymore Kick and gets the win. After the match, The Miz gets hit with two more Claymore Kicks.

R-Truth loses the 24/7 Championship to Drake Maverick thanks to Drake dressed up as Carmella.

Kofi Kingston and Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn: This is a 2 out of 3 Falls Match and the first of those falls happen in the first five seconds of the match with Kofi pinning Sami after a Trouble in Paradise. Backstage Paul Heyman is watching this match. Seth got the hot tag to Kofi and one would think Kofi is definitely the most popular Superstar in the ring based on crowd reaction. Seth provided a lot of the fast-paced offense. I expected this would be a match that would come down to the third fall but we get a fall sweep by Kofi and Seth after a Curbstomp to Kevin from Seth. It makes sense I mean, they are the top Champions in the company. Seth and Kofi celebrate in the ring and SmackDown goes off the air.
