NXT Recap – 8/7/19; Last Stop Before TakeOver: Toronto

This week’s NXT kicks off with GM William Regal in the ring for the contract signing between Undisputed Era’s Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish and the NXT Tag Team Champions the Street Profits for their match at NXT TakeOver: Toronto. Street Profits give O’Reilly and Fish their props for being the greatest tag team in NXT history but it only leaves them with one option, to win win win win win win win and beat that ass. The contract is signed by both parties with no scuffle.

We get a video package for the NXT North American Championship match at TakeOver between Champion Velveteen Dream, Roderick Strong, and Pete Dunne.

We also get a video package for the NXT Women’s Championship match between Champion Shayna Baszler and Mia Yim.

Joaquin Wilde vs. Shane Thorne: Early on Thorne had a difficult time keeping Wilde grounded. Thorne hits a massive brainbuster to take control of the match. Wilde has a great comeback capping it off with a huge powerbomb. Wilde hits a pop up mule kick then begins diving all over the place. Action on the outside where Thorne beats the holy hell out of Wilde. Thorne rolls wild back into the ring and hits him with a Running Knee and picks up the win.

We get a video package for the match between Io Shirai and Candice LaRae this Saturday at NXT TakeOver: Toronto.

We were supposed to see Matt Riddle vs. Killian Dain but Dain attacked Riddle during his entrance.

We get a recap of the NXT Breakout Tournament. The finals between Jordan Myles and Cameron Grimes takes place next week. Also happening next week will be the reformed Breezango taking on the Forgotten Sons.

To close out this week we get an in-depth video package for the main event of NXT TakeOver: Toronto between Champion Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano in a 2 out of 3 Falls match. It’s a great buildup piece for two men who have created one of the best rivalries in NXT history.
