Ahead of the two hour Dark Side of the Ring season finale Martha Hart shed light on why she won’t ever reconcile with WWE over the death of her husband Owen.
“There’s always been this talk that, ‘Oh, we want to put Owen in the Hall of Fame,'” Hart said. “Their Hall of Fame? They don’t even have a Hallway of Fame. It doesn’t exist. There’s nothing. It’s a fake entity. There’s nothing real or tangible. It’s just an event they have to make money. They put it on TV and have a celebration, and it’s just so ridiculous. I would never even entertain it. It’s garbage.”
“I’d never want him recognized by a company responsible for his death and that has been so disrespectful to his family. No, never.”
As a wrestling fan, I’ve always wanted Owen Hart to get his time to shine because he belongs in every pro wrestling Hall of Fame that exists. That’s the thing, the WWE Hall of Fame doesn’t exist. The Baseball Hall of Fame has an actual building in Cooperstown, NY. NBA’s is in Massachusetts. NHL has one. Hell, there’s a Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame/Museum in Wichita Falls, TX. The WWE Hall of Fame location is a website link. Yes, the spectacle of the Hall of Fame is really nice and it is an awesome way to honor the legends of this wonderful business but let’s be honest, the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony is just another event perk added on to your expenses from WrestleMania weekend should you choose to attend. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying WWE should not profit however they see fit with honoring their employees, but do you blame Martha Hart for not wanting WWE to profit over her husband’s death that is on their hands? I’m sure there are many in the elite level of the WWE organization who genuinely believe putting Owen Hart in the WWE Hall of Fame is a respectable, kind-hearted gesture honoring someone who gave literally gave his life to this business.
I was one of the fans clamoring for it to happen. It needed to happen. But that’s for Mrs. Hart to decide. She lost her husband. WWE may just be losing a boost in ticket sales.
